Italica, a popular city located near modern-day Seville, was established in 206 BC by Publius Africanus- a Roman general, for the purpose of settling wounded soldiers during the Battle of Ilipa. Today, this city has become popular because of its artistic galleries, ancient relics and Roman architecture. This city is the birthplace of great Roman rulers like Trajan and Hadrian.

Let’s explore the legendary treasures of Italica.

1)Ruins At Santiponce:

Situated at a distance of 8kms from Seville, you can visit Roman Ruins of Italica at Santiponce. Among the relics is the colossal Amphitheater which is mostly visited by the tourists. The pre-historic houses, mosaics, statues and other remains of this region are preserved in the Palace of the Condesa de Lebrija and the Archaeological Museum of Seville.

Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo and the altar of Martinez Montanez are other tourist attractions of this place. The monastery was built in 14th century, on Gothic and Mudejar architecture by Guzmán el Bueno while the altar houses delicate frescos and impressive paintings of Spanish history.

At Pickman Museum, you can see several ceramic pieces since it is situated in the premises of ceramics factory. Moreover, you get an opportunity of witnessing traditional manufacturing processes of artifacts.

2)Carmona:

The exquisite town of Carmona, situated at a distance of 33kms from Seville, is known for its towering fortifications and, for being the former Carthaginian settlement. It was later inhabited by the Romans, who built the Palace of Alcazar.

3)Ecija

Ecja is a manorial town located between Seville and Cordon provinces. It comprises of traditional palaces, remarkable forts, particularly the palaces like Condes de Valverde and Marqueses de Peñaflor. Recognized as Astigi by the Moors, this town highlights the Moorish architectural genius through its Arabian baths, towering citadels and massive entrances of Puerta Cerrada and Puerta Del Puente.

Ecija is identified as the “city of towers” because it comprises of a chain of lofty church towers, forming the skyline of the city. Important monuments of this city are: Archaeological Museum of Santa Maria, Church of Iglesia de Santiago, Convento de las Teresas and 11 lofty towers of Pescadera and Alberrana Merino.

The sandy shores of Arenal and Playa Del Arenal, the most popular beach of Javea are the main center of attraction. They’re situated by a chain of bars, bistros and lounges. The wild beaches of Javea are popular for dazzling nightlife, gravel, rocks and beautiful marine wildlife.

4) Osuna:

The dukedom of Osuna, situated approximately 86kms from Seville, is known for its artistic value and aesthetic worth.
