Materials Handling Equipment – Various Uses

Is there a need to move goods from one place to another? Goods or inventory, in whatever name it may be referred to is valuable for the company. At some point, these goods will fetch good revenues. Hence, if there in indeed a need one will have to be on the lookout for materials handling equipment. If one goes by the definition it relates to all the equipment that can be used in movement, storage, control, or even protection of materials and goods. These equipments can be virtually classified into four categories. The first type is storage and handling equipment, then one comes across engineered systems, industrial trucks and finally the equipments that can handle bulk material.

The Materials Handling equipment is mainly there to increase efficiency, output, and decrease costs. The most common of these equipments are the storage and handling ones. Some examples of this form of equipment are pallet-racking, shelves, carts that fall under this category. Some of these products are referred to as catalog items, because they have been accepted globally. Under the engineered systems category one will come across handling robots, AS/RS. They are often a combination of products that have been integrated into one system.

The next form is the industrial trucks that one comes across in warehouses. These are operator driven and run within the confines of the warehouse. It is powered by gasoline, propane, or even electricity. The advantage with these trucks is that they can travel to areas where engineered systems cannot. Finally, there lies the option for bulk material. Under this category, one comes across on rail transfer carts, which moves on rails or even conveyors. Hence, these are options one has at disposal if Materials Handling is the need of the hour. The basic principal is that materials are important for any organization and need to be handled with care.
